Product information "Vario angle guide for base edge"
With the Vario angle guide and a suitable file (not included), you can easily tune the base edge of your alpine skis or snowboard.
You can individually adjust the angle guide from 0° to 3° in 0.5° increments.
With just a few strokes, the base edge will be flat and sharp again.
Which setting is the right one?
In general, it can be said: The sharper the angle of the edges, the more aggressive the edge. This means the skis grip better and engage faster than with blunter edges. The more the edge is tuned, the less aggressive it becomes, but the ski will be more agile.
For recreational skiers, we sharpen the base edges at 0.5° and the side edges at 88° in our workshop. This gives the edges a very good compromise between agility and aggressiveness.
Which file is the right one?
If the edge is heavily damaged, the burrs must be removed with an aluminum oxide stone before grinding. Then, we recommend using the coarse side of the multi-file. After a few even strokes and an initial flat grind, we recommend switching to the fine side of the multi-file. Now, the edges will be ground flat properly.
